The Histopathology of the Central Nerve System by Protracted Case of CO-poisoning

Abstract
Author had experienced the protracted cases of CO-poisoning (Silbelius¢¥ intermitent type) those had died 7 cases among 14 cases since 1958.
It is very difficult of get autopsy brain in Korea that author had wanted to study histopathoigical changes of them for many years.
Fortunately, the flrst brain of protracted case of CO-poisoning in Korea was gotten and observed marked histopathological changes of brain.
The results were follows;
1. Diffuse homogenous change, ischemic, atrophy, neurophagia, shadow, figure necrotic area, vacuol formation in brain tissue, and axonal change of nerve cells in whole grey matter and in many nucleus that are differ from other reports,
2. There were seen some blood thrombosis and softening in grey matter.
3. General, diffuse proliferation and hypertropby of glia cells were seen.
4. There were not seen myelin sheath change, axonal swelling, and softening of pallidum.
5. Inflammation and hypertrophy were seen in the blood vessels of pia matter and in parenchym.
6. Presumably, the axonal change were due to avitaminosis, and degenerative change were due to
hematodynamic edema.
7. It seemed to be proliferation and hypertrophy of glia cells were seen against degenerative changes of nerve cells.
8. The study for relationship between axonal change and CO-poistoning has to be done in the future and we have to consider some corelation between (Clinical) complication and histo pathological findings of brain.
9. There were no senile changes in the nerve cells and other brain tissue in spite of this over 60 years old patient that we have to study in the future for this fields.
